As planned, WordCamp Europe took place this year in the city of the Violet Crown, Athens, Greece at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre. This 11th edition of the European WordPress conference was more than just a WordCamp as recently we celebrated 20 Years of WordPress all over the world. 

This WordCamp will be remembered for the full 3 days of inspiring activities with record-breaking 2,500+ attendees. From the exciting session lineups to an amazing atmosphere of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and unity this WordCamp had everything to be counted as one of the best ever.

Day 2: The Conference Day Of WordCamp Europe

The conference day of WordCamp is always full of engaging sessions, networking, and fun activities. This WordCamp Europe was no different. The day was buzzing with thousands of WordPressians. In another very engaging session, Afshana Diya, the CMO of WPDeveloper, talked about WordPress Contributions in a panel discussion with Ahmed Kabir Chaion, Fahim Murshed, Ganga Kafle, and Sunita Rai, some of the top WordPress contributors who have left an impact on the global WordPress community. In this interactive session, they discussed the topic “WordPress Contributions: Make Global Impact From Here & Leave Your Mark”. Also, one of our brilliant teammates from WPDeveloper, Priyo Mukul, talked about “Sailing with Composer Packages in Plugin Development: Keep It Compatible” and another teammate A H M Nazmul Hasan Monshi shared his knowledge on “WordPress Release Cycle | Behind the Scenes of WordPress 6.2 Dolphy” as he actively worked on WordPress latest release.

These sessions were highly engaging and garnered significant interest from the audience. Each speaker brought their expertise and unique perspectives to the forefront, captivating attendees with their knowledge and passion for WordPress. These sessions served as valuable learning opportunities, empowering attendees to deepen their understanding of WordPress development, design, marketing, and more aspects.

Fun And Games: A Huge Crowd At WPDeveloper Booth

Our WPDeveloper booth at WordCamp Sylhet was a buzzing hotspot of excitement and entertainment, attracting a massive crowd of attendees. With engaging activities and exclusive giveaways, we ensured that everyone had a memorable experience. One of the highlights at our booth was the popular “Scratch and Win” game, where participants eagerly tried their luck to uncover exciting prizes. Attendees collected a wide range of goodies, including trendy t-shirts, cool sunglasses, stylish notebooks, handy calendars, and catchy stickers. The game not only added an element of fun but also provided participants with tangible mementos to remember their time at WordCamp Sylhet.

Contributing To #WCSylhet: Over 100 Contributors Participated

The contributor day at WordCamp Sylhet witnessed the impressive participation of over 100 contributors, making it a truly collaborative and productive event. The day kicked off with the introduction of the table leads, who guided the contributors throughout the day. Besides many table leads, from our WPDeveloper team, Afshana Diya led the Community table, A H M Nazmul Hasan Monshi led the Testing table, Mumtahina Faguni led the Marketing table, and Linkon Miyan took charge of the Meta table. With their guidance, participants embarked on a day filled with valuable contributions and meaningful engagement.

At each table, participants actively contributed their skills and knowledge to various projects. Many newcomers created their WordPress ORG profiles and joined the Make WordPress Slack channel, immersing themselves in the vibrant WordPress community. The collective effort and enthusiasm of the contributors resulted in significant progress and contributions to the WordPress ecosystem.

During the day, everyone had an amazing time. The Nepali community also added to the diversity and vibrancy of the event. Apart from the focused contributions, the day also allowed for relaxation and bonding moments. Participants gathered for a delicious lunch and group photos, capturing memories and celebrating their collaborative efforts. The event concluded with informal interactions, fun chats, and a sense of fulfillment for all the valuable work accomplished.

WordCamp Europe At The Largest Venue In Athens

This year’s WordCamp Europe was held at Megaron Athens International Conference Centre which is the largest venue in Athens. Just a few minutes of walk from the historical range of historic landmarks, this venue has the capacity of hosting 6,000 people. Very close to Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, and Athens Metro, this building comes with a modern complex with all kinds of facilities. 

Story Of Contributor Day For Help Making WordPress Even Better

This year’s WordCamp Europe had an all-day-long Contributor Day on 8th June. The attendees needed to register separately to attend the contributor day. All the WordPress enthusiasts who work behind the scenes to grow this open-source platform gathered together there. At this year’s WordCamp Europe, a new team was introduced named Sustainability with the goal of adding sustainable practices to WordPress.

WordPress For The Youngster: Special Workshop For Kids

WordPress is for everyone. Its core goal is to give everyone a voice regardless of age or from any part of the world. WordCamp Europe 2023 had a brand-new session for the kids on contributor day. 

In this workshop, our future generation got the opportunity to explore and create a WordPress website in a 3 hour-long session. The volunteers helped them to set up their websites and teach them how to create different types of content with WordPress on the spot. 

Wellness Track Activities To Embrace A Healthy Lifestyle

The Wellness Track at the WordCamps can remind us to prioritize well-being. In WordCamp Europe 2023, Yoga classes, Tai Chi sessions, and short hikes to Lycabettus ​​were arranged for the attendees. As these sessions are designed for beginners, many attendees joined and learned the importance of an active and stress-free life. 

Expert instructors were there to guide attendees on these activities. While only 20 Yoga mats were available, the attendees enjoyed the sessions by sitting on the ground. Those who spent some time in the wellness tracks had fun with fellow WordPress enthusiasts.

Insightful Open Discussions In WP Connect

The WordCamp Europe Community team arranged open discussion sessions on both of the conference days in the WP Connect space. The attendees joined there and learned new things from the community and shared their views on different topics. 

Afshana Diya, the Chief Marketing Officer of WPDeveloper, was there along with Hari Shanker, Courtney Robertson, and Emanuel Blagonic to share her expertise on Five For The Future and how a company can donate employees to the WordPress Project; along with helpful advice on how anyone can become a sponsored contributor for the open source project.

From Dreaming To Doing: Recap Of WordCamp Asia 2023

In 2020, the first-ever flagship event was set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, before it was postponed indefinitely due to the unforeseen global pandemic. However, despite all the challenges, WordCamp Asia received tons of support from the entire WordPress community, and after long 3 years of planning and anticipation was finally held this past February 2023. And what a very exciting and momentous event it has been! 

This historic event was attended by WordPress enthusiasts, professionals, and anybody who is or wanted to be a part of the platform’s worldwide community. This was Asia’s first regional WordCamp!

This event was a fantastic success! From the warm-hearted nature of the organizers, sponsors, attendees, and locals, the super-sized portions at every delicious meal, the celebration of diversity, to all of the extraordinary conversations everyone had during that short span of time – nothing was short of incredible. Here’s a recap of WordCamp Asia that has left a mark on everyone’s memories.

The Biggest Gathering Of The Asian WordPress Community

WordCamp organizers all around the world have had to make changes during the past three years, with some going entirely online and others calling off their events entirely. It was crucial for the WordCamp Asia organizers and volunteers to hold off on their in-person gathering until it was secure enough.

And as mentioned, the first flagship WordCamp Asia finally took place from 17th to 19th February 2023 after three arduous years of preparation and pre-planning. And to attend this weekend of learning and networking, WordPress users from all around the world came to the lovely tropical lands of Bangkok, Thailand.

The numbers and figures are staggering, and we have to mention that the organizers, sponsors, and volunteers did an amazing job making all of it happen. Before the event, WordCamp Asia organized a Contributor Day where 653 individuals could come and participate. In the 2 days that followed, 1,299 participants attended the very-first WordCamp Asia The fact that 3,185 viewers watched the live stream is even more phenomenal! 

ICONSIAM: The Destination Itself For WordCamp Asia 2023

On the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand, lies the mixed-use complex known as Iconsiam, styled as ICONSIAM. It has a sizable mall, as well as hotels and condominiums. It also features more than just high-end stores and restaurants; it also includes an indoor floating market and a water fountain light show ready to make your day.

ICONSIAM was explored by WordCamp participants in their own unique ways, and it has all the makings of a future gem for anybody!

And the True Icon Hall at ICONSIAM was the home to the very first-ever WordCamp Asia for the entirety of its duration, with its multiple stories of accommodation and countless facilities.

Contributing To WordPress At #WCAsia: Over 650+ Contributors

Contributor Day for WordCamp Asia 2023 took place on February 17, 2023, the first day of the three-day event in Bangkok, Thailand. It is a day dedicated to making the WordPress project better through contributing in 21 different teams, from marketing, to documentation, translation, and more.

To contribute, you don’t need to be a coder or designer or even have any WordPress knowledge. Contributing to the project is a brilliant way to get involved and learn about it. The WordPress project brings together several teams that work on everything from design and polyglots to the core and community.

We are delighted to share that three team members from WPDeveloper participated in WordCamp Asia as table leads for Contribution Day. Below, they have shared their experience on WCAsia Contributor Day, which saw more than 650 enthusiastic contributors for the WordPress project!

I was thrilled to be selected as a table lead for the Openverse table at WordCamp Asia. It was my first time in this role, and I found the experience to be truly enjoyable and rewarding.

2 Unforgettable Days Of WCAsia: Speaker Sessions, Booths, Networking Opportunities & More

Both of the conference days of WordCamp Asia 2023 were filled with enlightening sessions, knowledge sharing, networking, and fun activities. WordCamp Kolkata 2022 was an entertaining and knowledge-sharing one-day event on 18th December. The conference was held at the grand and spacious AltAir Boutique Hotel’s Phoenix Hall 1 & 2 in Salt Lake City, right in the heart of the City of Joy, Kolkata.
